The BBC Proms (the name Proms is shortened from Promenade concert) are a series of concerts held each year at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The most famous of these events is the Last Night concert, which this year will be held on 12th September. For example, the five piano concertos written by Sergei Prokofiev, the 20th-century Russian composer, will be performed together during the same concert for the first time ever during the 2015 Proms season. The 2015 season will also see Sunday matinee performances held for the first time. Last Night of the Proms, which is broadcast on BBC radio and television, is typically lighter in theme than the other concerts held during the Proms season, with popular classics and British patriotic music being prominent. The Royal Albert Hall could be sold out many times over for the Last Night concert and tickets are highly sought after. To meet demand, Proms in the Park events are held in locations across the UK, including in Hyde Park.
The Royal Albert Hall is located at the northern tip of South Kensington, opposite Hyde Park. As such, the venue has good public transport links but the convenience of chauffeur services in Kensington outweighs all other options.
